Picture a global indirect tax role not confined to routine but shaped by your ability to steer the future of this tax team based in the Netherlands.

Here’s your opportunity to become a Global Indirect Tax Manager for an innovative online marketplace, where you’ll craft the tax framework propelling this growing team forward.

This isn’t your typical position; it’s a blend of compliance, process enhancement, and technology implementation and configuration.

Unlike a standard managerial role, you’ll be hands-on with various projects, ready to roll up your sleeves. While you won’t be filing returns, comfort with reviewing them is essential.

Drawing on your multijurisdictional experience across Europe and the US, you’ll guide the team through the complexities of global tax landscapes. While advisory work is present, your primary focus will be streamlining backdated compliance projects, implementing tax engines, and driving automation.

As the lone indirect tax specialist, it’s about setting the tone from the beginning.

Resilience and adaptability are crucial, especially for tackling backdating projects and tightening compliance. There’s groundwork to lay, but in 2-3 years, you’ll proudly say, “I built that” and “look how far we’ve come.”

This role has the power to significantly shape the organization’s future trajectory. As the team becomes more streamlined, the potential for progression increases, opening the exciting opportunity to evolve into the position of Head of Indirect Tax.

Flexibility is key, especially with most team members in the US. This won’t adhere to the conventional 9-5 routine, but rest assured, there’s no pressure for overtime. Instead, you’ll have the freedom to adjust your schedule by starting later and finishing later.

To be considered, you’ll need:
  • Multijurisdictional experience across Europe and some exposure to the US taxation landscape
  • E-commerce background with a deep understanding of online marketplace dynamics, including Sales Tax Nexus, EU VAT in the Digital Age reforms, DAC 7, e-invoicing, etc.
  • Prior experience in tax engine configuration
  • Experience in a standalone role or leading a small team
  • Avalara experience would be beneficial
