Accelerating Action: What International Women’s Day means to us

Since its inception in the last century, most of us have likely come across International Women’s Day in our lifetimes, whether in the form of a social media post, an office lunch with your colleagues, or a gathering with your social circle—all in celebration of women.

However, this year’s campaign theme, Accelerating Action, strikes a different chord.

If the current rate of progress continues, it will take until the year 2158 to reach full gender parity. This year’s theme highlights that, while celebration is encouraged, we need to do more to underpin the work of women. Which is why…

It’s important to acknowledge our role as recruiters.

We hold an important position that bears weight in terms of improving the above statistics. In providing candidates and making placements, we are directly affecting the trajectory of gender parity in the workplace.

What about Harvey John in particular?

As a company comprised mostly of women, we’re most certainly doing our bit to alleviate gender inequality. Women are present in each and every level of Harvey John, and they are encouraged transparently and wholeheartedly to work toward promotion.

In the past year, over a third of the women at Harvey John have either been promoted or are actively working toward promotion.

Better yet? Our networking and marketing efforts are geared toward inclusion.

With the appointment of our Marketing Manager in the past year, our celebratory case studies and outbound email campaigns never looked so good. Though we’re no strangers to acknowledging and highlighting the work of brilliant women, with plenty of interviews and insightful blogs to be found on our Media Hub.

And with our newfound Head of Client Services making a splash in the networking arena, we are proactively creating spaces in which women can showcase their skills.

What does the near future look like for us?

This spring is packed with exciting firsts for Harvey John. Firstly, the Leadership Lab, a new series of webinars that aims to highlight the work of local executives in a live interview format—the first of which stars executive coach Helen Tuddenham.

Secondly, a Spring Networking Event aimed toward local professionals who like the sound of combining retail therapy with contact-making. This event will fuse shopping with networking as award-winning retailer Doodie Stark hosts us for an evening of drinks, nibbles, and discounts!

With more events in the pipeline and countless marketing ideas up our sleeves, we’re excited to see what the future holds and take pride in our efforts toward Accelerating Action.
