Prepare for your first day

Starting a new job may sometimes feel like going to a new school. That initial feeling of excitement is a good sign (you made the right choice!) but you are fully aware that it’s going to take some time and effort to fit into a new way of working.

Prepare your pitch. People will ask you about your previous work experience, why you made a move etc. Have a quick and positive summary prepared!

Check the names of people you might meet on your first day. Do some research – visit the company website and LinkedIn company page, and make a mental list of “who’s who”.

Dress code. Get in touch with HR and check the office dress code. Pick your outfit the night before to save time and stress in the morning!

Commute. Be smart, check road closures / cancelled trains. Aim to be 20 minutes early.

Keep your evening free so you can be spontaneous, your new team may invite you out for a quick welcome drink!

Prepare some small-talk topics. Awkward silences are not cool! Check the news regarding the company, the industry etc.

Last but not least, make sure you’re well rested so you impress and perform well!

Sound career advice. Always under 200 words.
