My move from 5+PQE Solicitor to Legal Recruitment Consultant

2019 has been quite the year for me. I started the year as a 5+PQE Solicitor and have now left the legal profession entirely, become a father, and ended the year in a new job and industry - establishing myself as a Legal Recruitment Consultant with Harvey John.

My message as we approach the year's end is to consider and reflect on what the word "change" means to you. I began 2019, like many, perceiving change to be negative. Disruptive. Uncertain. Also, that "change" somehow implied failure. That, by deciding to move on and contemplate a new career, I was admitting or accepting defeat in my current one.

I begin 2020 with the understanding that change can in fact be incredibly positive, brave, liberating, and rewarding. You may feel that promotion opportunities in your current law firm are too limited. That the work/life balance is not quite right and that you are currently making too many sacrifices. You may simply feel that, by staying where you are and by standing still, you are in fact missing a better opportunity elsewhere.

If you want to discuss your options informally or you require more active assistance in exploring how you can embrace change and make a positive improvement to your legal career, please do get in touch. I would be delighted to help you. Starting from 6th Jan, I'll be reachable at samuel@harveyjohn.com.

Harvey John have a team of specialist legal recruiters with a vast understanding of the market specifically with in-house and private client jobs. I’ll be joining Charlotte, the team’s legal resourcer, and Hayley who was also a practicing solicitor before changing her own career to recruitment.
